Outdoor Burning
The City of Statesboro prohibits outdoor burning without a permit.
How do I get a Burn Permit?

· If you live inside the City Limits of Statesboro or in the five mile fire district you need to contact the Fire Department during regular business hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm) at (912) 764-FIRE (3473) to request a permit. Please state the location and materials to be burned when calling. Someone from the Fire Department will come to the location and determine if a permit can be issued.

There is no charge for a burn permit.

What are the guidelines for residential burning?
· Burning is limited to yard debris only (i.e., leaves, pine straw and fallen dead limbs) from 10 AM to 6 PM or at sundown (whichever comes first).
· All fires must be extinguished and completely out and after 6 PM or by dark.
· Examples of illegal burning include construction materials and garbage.
· Always have a working water hose nearby.
· Fires must be 50 feet from all structures and 10 feet from property lines.
· Also, you may need to get a permit from the Georgia Forestry Commission (912-681-5920) if you are burning forest or conducting an agriculture burn.
