SMOKE ALARMS

“Working Smoke Detectors Save Lives”

Every home should have at least one working smoke detector. For the best protection, install a smoke alarm outside each bedroom on every level of the home.

If you sleep with the bedroom door closed install a smoke alarm inside the bedroom.

Smoke alarms are inexpensive and easy to install. When fire breaks out, the smoke alarm, functioning as an early warning system, reduces the risk of dying by nearly 50 percent. They are the single most important means of preventing house and apartment fire fatalities by providing an early warning signal so you and your family can escape.

Smoke alarms should be installed on the ceiling at least 6 inches from the wall or 6 to 8 inches below the ceiling on side walls.

Once you have installed smoke detectors, test every detector at least once a month.

Keep the detector clean and dust free.

Replace batteries with new ones at least once a year or sooner if the detector makes a chirping sound.

If you have a smoke detector that is wired to your electrical system, make sure that the signal light is blinking to indicate that it is working properly.

SMOKE DETECTOR PROGRAM:
