Steering Committee

An important part of the planning process is to involve residents and stakeholders in developing a vision for the community.  As part of that effort, the City of Statesboro has established a Steering Committee to guide the planning process.

What the Steering Committee will do:

  • Involve all segments of the community in the planning process;
  • Generate local pride and enthusiasm about the future of the community;
  • Provide input for the Community Agenda, a guide to everyday decision-making for use by local government officials and other community leaders; and
  • Engage the interest of citizens in implementing the plan.

On April 15, 2008 the Mayor and City Council appointed the fifteen members of the Steering Committee.  They are:

Julius Abraham Wendell Hagins Wesley Parker
Mike Backus Faye Hunter Dan Pratt
Pearl Brown Karen Lavender Lewis Stewart
Jamey Cartee Jan Moore Sharon Tracy
Teresa Concannon Clint Nesmith Craig Tremble

The Steering Committee will hold its first meeting on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 50 East Main Street.  The meeting is open to the public, but is not being held to solicit input from the general public.  Opportunities for everyone to provide input will be provided later.
