Originally, Streets Department, Parks Department, Sanitation Department, Solid Waste (Transfer Station), and Fleet Maintenance were all separate divisions. In 1990, all five divisions were consolidated into one department that was simply titled "Public Works." Accordingly, as of the 1990 merge, Mr. Bobby J. Colson has been the only Director of the Public Works Department.

Now, the main office for Public Works is located at 5 Braswell Street . Over sixty (60)
full-time employees work for the City of Statesboro 's Public Works Department.
